What are books 5-8 about?
Books 5-8 in the Odyssey are about Odysseus and how he was finally allowed to leave Calypso's island. He arrived at the coast of Scheria, the island of the Phaiacians.
Whose story do they tell?
They tell the story of Odysseus.
What themes do they back up?
They back up the theme of hospitality greatly because when Odysseus arrives on the island he is given a bath. He is also taken to the palace and given clothing, food, a place to stay, and is treated very hospitably by the people. These books also back up the theme of loyalty.
Why are they important?
These books are important to the story because they tell the story of Odysseus. We also find out where Odysseus is in the world at this time, and that he is most definitely alive and well.
