Book 18

What happens in this book:
Odysseus fights Iros, the town beggar. Penelope came down the stairs from her room and all her suitors gave her gifts. Eurymachos gets enraged at Odysseus and throws a stool at him.

Characters:
Iros, Antinoos, Amphinomos, Eurynome, Antinoe, Hippodameia, Eurymachos, Athena, Eurydamas, Melantho, Telemachos.

Theme:
Hospitality. The suitors are extremely inhospitable to Odysseus, even though it's his own house.

Why it's important:
It illustrates the characters of the suitors and makes the reader dislike them even more. It is also the beginning of the final conflict.
